Osmorhiza depauperata Phil. is an erect perennial herb that grows up to 80 centimeters tall. Its green leaves have blades up to 12 centimeters wide, divided into toothed or deeply lobed leaflets. Each leaf blade is held on a long petiole. The inflorescence is a compound umbel of many tiny white flowers, located at the tip of a stem-like peduncle. The plant produces club-shaped, ribbed, bristly fruit that measures 1 to 2 centimeters long. This species is native to most of western and northern North America, and also grows in parts of South America. It occurs in wooded habitat.
