About Odontites vernus (Bellardi) Dumort.

Odontites vernus, commonly called red bartsia, is a wild flowering species in the family Orobanchaceae. It is native to Europe and Asia, and occurs as an introduced alien species in North America. Red bartsia is commonly found in low-fertility soils, where it grows as a partial parasite on the roots of grasses. It produces pinkish to red flowers between June and September each year. This species prefers dry conditions and full sun exposure, and is pollinated by bees and wasps. Over the past 70 years, red bartsia has disappeared from many woodland locations in the English county of Dorset. In Manitoba, Canada, red bartsia is classified as a weed.
