About Odontites luteus (L.) Clairv.
Odontites luteus (L.) Clairv. is an annual hemiparasitic plant that reaches 10 to 60 cm in height. Its leaves are linear, narrow, and generally have smooth, untoothed margins. Its inflorescences are arranged into unilateral clusters. The pubescent corolla is deep yellow, and has margins edged with ciliate beards. The stamens are distinctly visible, extending out beyond the corolla. This species has a chromosome count of 2n = 20. This plant is distributed across Europe and North Africa, where the North African population is classified as subspecies reboudii. It grows in steppes, garrigues, and along the edges of dry forests. It favors moderately dry, typically limestone-based soils low in clay, and always grows in sunny locations. In Central Europe, this species is part of the plant communities belonging to the Festuco-Brometea and Sedo-Scleranthetea classes.
