About Nigella arvensis L.

Nigella arvensis L., commonly known as field nigella or wild fennel flower, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. Its native range spans North Africa, central, southern and eastern Europe, the Caucasus region, and the Middle East extending as far east as Iran. It is classified as extinct in the wild in Switzerland and Crete. It is grown as a minor agricultural crop, and is used locally as a substitute for Nigella sativa, also known as black caraway.
