Nannophryne variegata, which is also commonly called the Eden Harbour toad or Patagonian toad, is a species of toad that belongs to the family Bufonidae.
Core Distribution Range
This toad is found in southern Argentina, ranging from Neuquén Province southward, and in Chile.
Unconfirmed Peruvian Record
There is also a single recorded observation of this species from Peru, but this record has not been confirmed, due to the extreme geographic and ecological isolation of this location from the species' known range.
Southern Distribution Limit
Its distribution reaches as far south as Tierra del Fuego, at 53°S latitude.
Southernmost Amphibian Status
This makes Nannophryne variegata one of the southernmost amphibian species in the world, a title it shares with the frog species Batrachyla antartandica.
Natural Habitat Types
The species' natural habitats include temperate to cold humid forests, bogs, and Magellanic tundra.
Microhabitat Occurrences
It can be found in marshes, under fallen logs within the Nothofagus forest region, and on tundra areas surrounded by low-growing Nothofagus forest in the subantarctic region.
Reproduction Sites
Nannophryne variegata reproduces in shallow temporary pools and swamps.

It is locally abundant and can tolerate a moderate amount of habitat disturbance.
