About Montia howellii S.Watson

Montia howellii S.Watson is a small, low-growing, mat-forming annual herb that reaches a maximum length of approximately 9 centimeters. Its alternately arranged leaves are linear or lance-shaped, sometimes grass-like, and can grow up to 2.5 centimeters long. The inflorescence holds 2 to 6 very small flowers. These flowers have oval green sepals that are no longer than 2 millimeters, and white petals that are less than 1 millimeter long. The flowers are typically cleistogamous, meaning they self-fertilize and sometimes never even open.
