About Mimosa quadrivalvis L.

Mimosa quadrivalvis L. is a sprawling herbaceous plant with alternate compound leaves. Each leaf can hold up to 16 pairs of leaflets, which fold together when touched. Its stem is covered in small recurved prickles. Flowers grow in round, clustered flowerheads, and are pink in color; each individual flower is only 3 mm (0.12 in) long, with protruding stamens. The fruits of this species are also prickly. It flowers from May through September. Mimosa quadrivalvis is native to Mexico, Belize, and Puerto Rico. It grows in habitats including glades, open woods, thickets, prairies, and roadsides.
