About Lysiphyllum hookeri (F.Muell.) Pedley
Like most other species in the genus Lysiphyllum, Lysiphyllum hookeri produces compound leaves that consist of just one pair of leaflets, forming a two-lobed leaf that looks like a butterfly’s wings. This species bears showy white flowers year-round when rainfall conditions are suitable. These flowers are highlighted by long red stamens and carry a pleasant, delicate scent. After flowering, flat seed pods that hold multiple seeds develop on the plant. In the wild, these trees grow in monsoon forest, littoral rainforest, and occasionally in more open forest types across north-eastern Australia. It has also been widely cultivated across Australia and the Pacific region as a drought-tolerant ornamental plant.
