About Lupinus pusillus Pursh

Lupinus pusillus, commonly known as rusty lupine or dwarf lupine, is an annual plant species belonging to the legume family Fabaceae. It grows in the Colorado Plateau and Canyonlands region of the southwestern United States, including California, and ranges north to Montana. It inhabits desert shrubland and pinyon juniper woodland communities, with a distribution that extends as far north as Washington, across California, and throughout the southwestern United States. When it grows in reddish sand, its blue flowers create a striking contrast against the sand when illuminated by low-angle sunlight.
