About Lathyrus pauciflorus Fernald

Lathyrus pauciflorus Fernald produces blue to purple flowers that bloom in early spring. Flowers typically reach at least 18 millimeters in size, and most leaves are longer than 3 centimeters. The keel of the flower is 2 to 4 millimeters shorter than the wing petals. This species grows at lower elevations, occurring in habitats ranging from sagebrush desert to Ponderosa pine forests. Its range extends from Washington to California, east of the Cascade crest in Washington, and eastward to Idaho and Arizona.
