About Lathyrus grandiflorus Sm.
Lathyrus grandiflorus, commonly known as two-flowered everlasting pea, is a flowering plant species in the legume family Fabaceae that is native to southern Europe. This plant is a twining herbaceous perennial that grows up to 2 metres (6.6 feet) tall. It has grey-green leaves, and produces bright magenta-pink flowers with a darker red central keel in late summer. Unlike its close relative, the annual sweet pea Lathyrus odoratus, Lathyrus grandiflorus does not have a noticeable scent. Once it is established, it grows as a robust plant that can scramble over other shrubs and trees. It is extremely hardy, tolerating temperatures as low as −20 °C (−4 °F), so it can survive growing conditions in most temperate regions across the world. In the United Kingdom, this plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
