Common Names and Taxonomic Classification

Koumansetta rainfordi, commonly called the old glory or Court Jester goby, is a species of goby.

Distribution and Habitat Depth

It is native to tropical reefs of the western Pacific Ocean, where it lives at depths ranging from 2 to 30 metres (6.6 to 98.4 ft).

Maximum Size

This species grows to a maximum length of 8.5 centimetres (3.3 in) measured along its standard length.

Aquarium Trade Presence

It is also available in the aquarium trade.

Etymology of Specific Name

Its specific name honors E. H. Rainford, a viticulturalist with the Queensland Agricultural Department.

Type Specimen Collection

Rainford also collected specimens for the Australian Museum, and he collected the original specimens of this species in 1924.
