About Jacaranda ulei Bureau & K.Schum.
Jacaranda ulei Bureau & K.Schum. is a small tree that reaches a height of 0.6 to 1.5 metres (2 ft 0 in to 4 ft 11 in). Its leaves are bipinnate, measuring 6 to 10 cm (2.4 to 3.9 in) in total length. Each leaf holds between 8 and 12 pinnae, with 6 to 16 leaflets per pinna. Individual leaflets are 15 to 20 cm (5.9 to 7.9 in) long and 3 to 5 cm (1.2 to 2.0 in) wide, with a narrowly oblong shape. The species produces deep purple flowers arranged in branched panicles. Each flower is 5 to 10 mm long and 4 to 7 mm wide, with 5 shallowly toothed edges. Its fruit is woody, with a round to elliptic shape, and grows to 3.5 to 5.5 cm (1.4 to 2.2 in) long and 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in) wide. Jacaranda ulei is a resprouter; its root system lets it survive wildfires and droughts in the savanna ecosystem of Brazil's Cerrado region. In traditional folk medicine, the roots of this plant are used to treat urinary tract infections, amoebiasis, backache, rheumatism, and skin disorders.
