About Indigofera spicata Forssk.
Indigofera spicata, commonly known as creeping indigo or trailing indigo, is a flowering plant species belonging to the legume family Fabaceae. It is native to Sub‑Saharan Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, Réunion, and Yemen. It has been introduced to the southeastern United States, multiple Caribbean islands, Brazil and other areas in Latin America, various Pacific islands, and the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland. It was originally thought to be a promising forage plant, but research later found it to be toxic to nearly all livestock. However, this toxicity finding may have actually come from experiments conducted on the similar related species Indigofera hendecaphylla, which has caused confusion on the matter.
