Hypsoblennius hentz, commonly called the feather blenny, is a species of combtooth blenny.
Distribution Range
It occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, where it ranges from Nova Scotia, Canada, south to Texas along the North American shoreline.
Habitat
This species can be found on coral reefs, and is also often seen on rocky shores and oyster reefs.
Size
It reaches a maximum total length of 10 centimetres, which is equivalent to 3.9 inches.
Etymology of Specific Name
The identity of the person that this species' specific name was intended to honor is uncertain, but it is believed to honor Nicholas Marcellus Hentz (1797–1856), a French American arachnologist.
Type Specimen History
Hentz was the "Mr Hentz" based in Charleston, North Carolina who sent the type specimen to Lesueur, who first described the species in 1825.
