About Hymenoxys cooperi (A.Gray) Cockerell
Hymenoxys cooperi, which has the scientific name Hymenoxys cooperi (A.Gray) Cockerell, is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family, commonly known as Cooper's rubberweed. It is native to the southwestern United States and the Great Basin, growing in rocky soils of arid regions ranging from southern California to New Mexico, and extending north to Idaho and Oregon. This plant is a biennial or perennial herb that produces an erect branching stem that reaches heights between 15 and 90 centimeters, or 6 to 36 inches (0.5 to 3.0 feet). It bears narrow, pointed leaves with two lateral lobes that form a trident shape. Both the foliage and stem are glandular and waxy, and are usually covered in a thin layer of light-colored hairs. Its daisy-like flower head consists of a cup of fused phyllaries holding 30 to 150 tiny yellow-orange disc florets, which are surrounded by 9 to 14 bright yellow ray florets. Each ray floret is approximately one centimeter (0.4 inches) long.
