About Hibiscus furcellatus Desr.

There are seven species of hibiscus that are native to Hawaii, collectively referred to as Hawaiian hibiscus. Among these, the yellow hibiscus is the official state flower of Hawaii. Non-native Chinese hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) and its many hybrids are the most commonly grown ornamental hibiscus in the Hawaiian Islands, though the native Hibiscus arnottianus is sometimes planted there. It is thought that native Hibiscus genus plants in Hawaii originated from four separate colonization events that gave rise to the five endemic species (four closely related species plus the yellow-flowered species), with one additional colonization event for each of the two indigenous species.
