Common Name and Taxonomy
Hemigobius hoevenii, commonly called the banded mulletgoby, is a species of goby.
Distribution and Habitat
It is found in the western Indo-Pacific region, ranging from Thailand to New Guinea and northern Australia, and inhabits mangrove areas.
Etymology
This species' specific name most likely honors Dutch ichthyologist Jan van der Hoeven (1801–1868); Pieter Bleeker has named multiple other taxa after Hoeven as well.
