This species occurs in western India, Myanmar, and Malaysia.
Taxonomic History
It was previously classified as the same species as Hemidactylus brookii, but was revalidated as a distinct species by Lajmi and colleagues in 2016.
Taxonomic Status
The species' taxonomic status remains unclear, because its type specimens have been lost.
Etymology
The specific epithet murrayi is named in honor of James A. Murray, a British zoologist.
