Scientific name: Gnidia squarrosa (L.) Druce. Lectotype, designated by Rogers in Rogers & Spencer in Taxon 55: 485 in 2006, is the illustration titled 'Thymelaea capitata, lanuginosa, foliis creberrimis, minimis, aculeatis' in Burman, Rar. Afric. Pl., page 134, plate 49, figure 1, published in 1738. Epitype, also designated by Rogers in Rogers & Spencer in Taxon 55: 485 in 2006, is a specimen from South Africa, Western Cape Province, Cape Peninsula, Cape Point, collected on 20 November 1938 by E. Wall (MO - 5653217).
