About Eutropis longicaudata (Hallowell, 1857)
Nomenclature
Eutropis longicaudata, commonly known as the longtail mabuya or long-tailed sun skink, is a species of skink.
Distribution
This species is distributed across southern China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Peninsular Malaysia.
Paternal Care Behavior
Recorded populations of this skink show that some individuals exhibit paternal care as a response to predation from egg-eating snakes.
Filial Cannibalism Behavior
Documentation also shows that some female Eutropis longicaudata will eat their own clutch of eggs when they face continual predator threat, most notably when threatened by O. formosanus.
