The yoke darter, scientifically known as Etheostoma juliae, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish. It is classified as a darter in the subfamily Etheostomatinae, which belongs to the family Percidae — a group that also includes perches, ruffes, and pikeperches.
Distribution Range
This species is endemic to the eastern United States, where it is found only in the White River drainage, covering parts of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.
Habitat
Yoke darters live in clear, fast-flowing, rocky riffles in creeks and small to medium-sized rivers.
Maximum Size
The species can grow to a maximum total length of 7.8 cm (3.1 in).
Etymology
Its specific name, juliae, honors Mrs Julia Hughes Gilbert, wife of American ichthyologist Charles Henry Gilbert, who lived from 1859 to 1928.
