Erythrina poeppigiana, commonly known as the mountain immortelle, is a flowering plant species that belongs to the genus Erythrina. This species is native to northern and western South America, and has been introduced to multiple regions including Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, India, and tropical Asia. Because it produces a striking display of orange flowers, it is widely used as an ornamental street tree. It holds the status of the emblematic state tree of Mérida, Venezuela. Erythrina poeppigiana is widely cultivated; it acts as a nitrogen fixer and also serves as a source of fodder.
