About Erythranthe nasuta (Greene) G.L.Nesom
Erythranthe nasuta, commonly called the shy monkeyflower, is a species of monkeyflower. Its scientific name was formerly Mimulus nasutus. This is an annual plant that is native to western North America, with a distribution that extends from British Columbia south to northwestern Mexico. Erythranthe nasuta evolved from Erythranthe guttata in central California between 200,000 and 500,000 years ago. Since its divergence, it has become primarily a self-pollinating species. Additional changes that have occurred since this divergence include genetic differences and variations in plant morphology. Erythranthe nasuta also prefers a drier habitat compared to Erythranthe guttata.
