About Eremogone franklinii (Douglas ex Hook.) R.L.Hartm. & Rabeler
Eremogone franklinii, with the full scientific name (Douglas ex Hook.) R.L.Hartm. & Rabeler, is a glabrous tufted perennial plant. It has a branched base and many prostrate or spreading stems, reaching up to 10 cm tall, and only rarely growing to 15 cm. Stems are covered with overlapping, narrowly triangular leaves that end in a needle-like tip. Individual leaves measure 1 to 2 cm long and are medium green in color. Near the upper portion of each stem, leaves often become paler green and develop whitish longitudinal markings. White flowers grow either singly or in dense clusters at the tip of each leafy stem. Each flower is roughly 2 cm across, with 5 pointed green sepals and 5 spreading, oblanceolate white petals. This species grows in open, seasonally dry sandy or rocky soils, and is commonly found growing alongside scrubby sagebrushes. It is native to the region stretching from eastern Washington and Oregon to southern Idaho and northern Nevada.
