About Encyclia adenocaula (Lex.) Schltr.
Encyclia adenocaula (Lex.) Schltr. is a small to medium-sized cool-growing epiphytic orchid species. It produces clustered ovoid to subconical pseudobulbs, which bear 2 to 3 leaves at their apex. The leaves are strap-shaped to linear, have an acute or obtuse tip, and narrow gradually toward the base. This orchid blooms in summer, producing an apical paniculate inflorescence that can reach over 90 cm (over 3 feet) in length and bears many flowers. The rachis, pedicel, and ovary of the inflorescence are warty, and the flowers themselves are long-lasting and fragrant. The flowers are rosy-pink to magenta, star-shaped with narrow petals. Its long pointed lip has dark pink markings, and it has a distinct winged column. Encyclia adenocaula grows in dry oak, pine, or oak-pine forests, at altitudes between 1000 and 2000 meters. It is found in western Mexican states: Durango, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Michoacan, Guerrero, and Mexico state.
