About Dracunculus canariensis Kunth

Dracunculus canariensis has a pale green outer stem. Its petals have a greenish white interior. This plant can produce up to 50 berries, which change from an initial greenish color to an orangish hue when ripe. Its yellow central stem, called a spadix, produces a semen-like odor. This odor attracts flies, wasps, bees, and other insects to pollinate the plant's spathe. Dracunculus canariensis is found only in the Canary Islands, specifically on Gran Canaria, La Palma, and Tenerife. It can be cultivated in laurel forests, open dry woodland, and scrubby fields.
