About Delphinium treleasei Bush
Delphinium treleasei grows 0.61–0.91 meters (2–3 feet) tall, and produces loose, terminal racemes of blue to blush-purple flowers. This species blooms in spring, typically from May to June. Individual flowers are 25 millimeters (1 inch) long, complex, asymmetrical, and have five sepals. One sepal forms a spurred prong, the feature that gave the group its common name of larkspur. Each inflorescence holds between 5 and 30 flowers. Its deep green leaves are narrowly and deeply divided, pedate in shape, and are mostly basal. All parts of Delphinium treleasei are poisonous when ingested. The natural habitat of this species is open juniper glades growing on calcareous substrate.
