About Delphinium hutchinsoniae Ewan

Delphinium hutchinsoniae is a rare larkspur species, commonly called Monterey larkspur and Hutchinson's larkspur. It is endemic to California, and is only found in Monterey County. This wildflower can grow up to one meter tall, but is usually shorter. Its leaves are divided into lobes, which are further split into smaller lobes, and most leaves grow low on the plant. The top of the thin, upright stem holds an inflorescence that bears no more than ten flowers. Each flower has sepals in shades ranging from brilliant purple or blue to lavender, plus two lower petals of the same color and two upper petals that are usually white. The flower's spur can grow up to two centimeters long, and curves downward at its tip.
