About Delphinium andersonii A.Gray
Delphinium andersonii A.Gray is a species of perennial larkspur commonly called Anderson's larkspur. This wildflower is native to western North America, where it occurs in the Great Basin and the Sierra Nevada. D. andersonii is an erect perennial that typically grows to around half a meter tall. It produces small leaves borne on long petioles, with leaf blades divided into long, fingerlike lobes. The top of the slender stem holds a cylindrical inflorescence of flowers. Each individual flower is two to four centimeters wide, with a spur that measures nearly two centimeters in length. Most flowers have brilliant dark blue sepals, with the lower two petals matching this dark blue color and the upper two petals being white. Some individual plants have sepals and petals that range from very light purple or blue to almost white. The anthers are often yellow. This species was named for Charles Lewis Anderson by Asa Gray.
