About Daphne pontica L.

Daphne pontica, commonly called twin-flowered daphne or Pontic daphne, is a species of flowering plant in the Thymelaeaceae family. It is native to Bulgaria, northern Turkey, and the Caucasus. It is a small evergreen shrub that grows to 1 metre (3 feet 3 inches) tall and 1.5 metres (4 feet 11 inches) wide. It produces leathery leaves and clusters of fragrant yellow flowers that grow in pairs during spring. Black berries often develop after the plant flowers. In garden cultivation, it can tolerate deep shade, but does not tolerate being transplanted well. This species has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Its specific epithet pontica comes from the Latin term for Pontus, a region of the Black Sea.
