About Dactylorhiza romana (Sebast.) Soó
Dactylorhiza romana, commonly known as the Roman dactylorhiza, is an orchid species. It is native to the Mediterranean Region of southern Europe and northern Africa, with its range extending east to Iran and Turkmenistan. Three subspecies of Dactylorhiza romana are currently recognized. Dactylorhiza romana subsp. georgica (Klinge) Soó ex Renz & Taubenheim occurs in Turkey, the Caucasus (including Armenia, Georgia (country), Azerbaijan, and southern Russia), Iran, and Turkmenistan. Dactylorhiza romana subsp. guimaraesii (E.G.Camus) H.A.Pedersen is found in Spain, Portugal, Algeria, and Morocco. Dactylorhiza romana subsp. romana grows in Italy, Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, Crimea, Cyprus, Lebanon, and Syria.
