On the western (American) side, its range extends as far north as Massachusetts (with rare occurrences reaching as far as Canada) and as far south as Argentina, and it can also be found in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Eastern Atlantic Range

On the eastern (European and African) side, its range stretches from the English Channel to Angola, and it also occurs in the Mediterranean Sea.
