It typically grows on acidic or sandy soils in tropical African savannas, and is a small to medium-sized tree.
Traditional Uses
Its roots provide material for making baskets, and are also used as a traditional medicine to treat haemorrhoids.
Role in Ancient Wooden Structure
The Kalambo structure, found at Kalambo Falls in Zambia and dated to approximately 476,000 years old, is the oldest known wooden structure, and it is made of two interlocking notched large-fruited bushwillow logs.
