Taxonomy and Size
Cnemidophorus ruthveni Burt, 1935 is a large species within its genus. Mature males have a maximum snout-vent length that exceeds 151 mm (5.9 in).
Male Coloration
Male Cnemidophorus ruthveni have dark grey to blackish coloration on the head, neck, and the front portion of the back, which shifts to a browner, paler tone toward the rear of the body. The sides of the head and body feature large white or light blue spots, while the sides of the tail and the feet are blue.
Female Coloration
Females of the species are uniformly brown, and may have faint stripes or spots.
Distribution
This species is endemic to Bonaire, a special municipality of Caribbean Netherlands. It occurs on both the main island of Bonaire and the smaller islet Klein Bonaire.
Natural Habitat
Its natural habitats are arid woodland and scrub.
Anthropogenic Habitat Use
It is frequently found near human settlements, where it accesses additional food sources like poultry feed.
