About Cirsium oleraceum (L.) Scop.
Cirsium oleraceum (L.) Scop., commonly called cabbage thistle or Siberian thistle, is a thistle species of the genus Cirsium in the Asteraceae family. It is native to central and eastern Europe and Asia, where it grows in wet lowland soils. This is a herbaceous perennial plant that grows up to 1.5 m tall, with stems that are unbranched or have only very few branches. Its leaves are broad, ovoid, pinnatipartite, and have weakly spiny margins. The plant produces pale yellow flowers, sometimes tinged pink, held in dense flower heads that measure 2.5–4 cm in diameter. Its specific epithet oleraceum means "vegetable/herbal" in Latin, and is a form of the word holeraceus (oleraceus). It is native across most of Europe, and is not native to Portugal, Albania, North Macedonia, Greece, Crimea, Ciscaucasia, Povolzhye, and the Mediterranean islands. It is also native to West Siberia, the Altai, and Kazakhstan, and has become naturalised in the British Isles, Finland, and Central Siberia.
