Taxonomy
Pycnochromis iomelas (originally described as Chromis iomelas Jordan & Seale, 1906) has a distinct split color pattern: the front half of its body, from the nose to the middle of the dorsal fin, is solid black, and the back half, from the middle of the dorsal fin to the end of the caudal fin, is solid white.
Size
This species reaches a maximum total length of 8 cm.
Distribution & Habitat
It is native to the Pacific Ocean, where it occurs on reefs including the Great Barrier Reef, plus reefs surrounding northern New Guinea, Samoa, and the Society Islands.
