Etymology and Coloration
Chamaeleo gracilis Hallowell, 1844, commonly called the graceful chameleon, most often has green, yellow, or brown base coloration, and has a green stripe running along its side.
Size
The species usually reaches a total length of 1 foot (30.5 cm) when measured including the tail, though it can grow to a maximum total length of 15 inches (38 cm) including the tail.
Distribution
The graceful chameleon lives across most of sub-Saharan Africa, with a range extending from Senegal in the west to Ethiopia in the east, and south to Angola.
Habitat
It primarily inhabits forests, but can also survive in bushy areas located near plantations and in savanna habitats.
Breeding Period
This chameleon breeds twice a year: once during the dry season, and a second time at the end of the wet season.
Clutch Size
Each clutch laid by a female contains 20 to 50 eggs.
