About Carpobrotus virescens (Haw.) Schwantes
Carpobrotus virescens is a prostrate plant with stems that can reach up to 1.5 metres (5 ft) in length. Its green leaves measure 3.5 to 9 centimetres (1½–3½ in) long and 9 to 17 millimetres wide. The flowers are 4 to 6 centimetres in diameter, borne on a pedicel 5 to 15 millimetres long. Each flower contains 250 to 300 stamens, surrounded by petal-like staminodes that are mostly purple, with white coloring at the base. This species is endemic to Western Australia, where it grows on coastal limestone cliffs and dunes. Its range extends west and north from the western edge of the Great Australian Bight almost to Shark Bay, with an additional outlying recorded population at North West Cape.
