About Carmichaelia williamsii Kirk

Carmichaelia williamsii Kirk is the only native broom species that produces yellow flowers. It can be told apart from the introduced common broom, Cytisus scoparius (L.) Link, by several features: its light green branches that are much wider and more flattened, its larger pale-yellow flowers that have purple or red veins, and its typical flowering season in late winter, from July to October (though it may flower at any time of year). This is a coastal species that grows in open forest, scrub, cliff faces, and scree.
