Native Range
It is native to the Great Plains of the United States and adjacent areas in northern Mexico.
Winter Foliage
In winter, its leaves and stems die back, and at most only a small rosette of green leaves remains visible directly above the root crown.

According to writer Claude A. Barr, purple poppy-mallow is one of the most consistent plants for producing vivid blankets of color.
