About Caladenia infundibularis A.S.George

Caladenia infundibularis A.S.George is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb that grows from an underground tuber. It produces a single hairy leaf, 80 to 120 millimeters (3 to 5 inches) long and approximately 12 millimeters (0.5 inches) wide. Between one and three greenish-yellow flowers, each 80โ€“120 millimeters (3โ€“5 inches) long and 60โ€“80 millimeters (2โ€“3 inches) wide, are borne on a stalk that grows 250โ€“450 millimeters (10โ€“20 inches) tall. The dorsal sepal of the flower is erect, measuring 35โ€“55 millimeters (1โ€“2 inches) long and 2โ€“3 millimeters (0.08โ€“0.1 inches) wide. The lateral sepals are 35โ€“65 millimeters (1โ€“3 inches) long and 4โ€“6 millimeters (0.16โ€“0.24 inches) wide, with thin, yellowish-brown, club-like glandular tips 6โ€“15 millimeters (0.2โ€“0.6 inches) in length. The petals are 27โ€“38 millimeters (1.1โ€“1.5 inches) long and 3โ€“8 millimeters (0.1โ€“0.3 inches) wide, spreading widely or curving slightly downwards. The labellum is greenish-yellow with a red tip, 20โ€“24 millimeters (0.8โ€“0.9 inches) long and 11โ€“16 millimeters (0.4โ€“0.6 inches) wide, with a downward-pointing tip. The tip of the labellum is funnel-shaped, with many spreading teeth up to 5 millimeters (0.2 inches) long along its sides, and four or six rows of yellowish calli along its midline. Flowering of this species takes place in October and November. Commonly called the funnel-web spider orchid, Caladenia infundibularis grows in coastal heath, forest, and woodland. It is found between Dunsborough and Northcliffe in Western Australia's Jarrah Forest, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren biogeographic regions.
