About Buddleja perfoliata Kunth
Buddleja perfoliata Kunth is a small dioecious shrub that reaches 0.8 to 2 meters tall in the wild. It is much branched, and has greyish-black shredding bark. Young branches are subquadrangular and covered in tomentum. The shrub bears opposite, sessile, subcoriaceous leaves that are lanceolate to elliptic in shape. The leaves are rugose on their upper surface, and dense felt-like tomentum covers both leaf surfaces. Its yellow inflorescences, which have a scent similar to sage, are 5 to 25 centimeters long. These inflorescences consist of 5 to 26 pairs of flower heads that grow from leaf axils; each flower head is approximately 1 centimeter in diameter and holds 30 to 40 individual flowers. The chromosome count for this species is 2n = 38. This species is not known to be grown in cultivation.
