About Buddleja lindleyana Fortune ex Lindl.
Buddleja lindleyana Fortune ex Lindl. In the wild, this species grows to less than 3 meters tall. It has slender branches that are tetragonous in cross-section and slightly winged. Its dark green leaves are opposite, ovate, and measure 4 to 20 centimeters in length. Individual purple flowers of this species are considered some of the most attractive in the Buddleja genus. However, the flowers appear in small numbers at intervals along slender, one-sided terminal panicles, so they do not create much visual impact. These flowers are also scentless. Flowering takes place in both June and July. The ploidy of this species is 2n = 38. For cultivation, this shrub is hardy down to −15 °C, but it requires protection from winter winds and grows best when planted against a south-facing wall. In the United Kingdom, specimens of this shrub are part of the NCCPG national collection, held at Longstock Park Nursery near Stockbridge, and at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, both located in Hampshire. The recommended hardiness rating for this species is USDA zone 8.
