About Borodinia dentata (Raf.) P.J.Alexander & Windham
Borodinia dentata, commonly known as Short's rockcress, is a flowering plant species belonging to the mustard family, Brassicaceae. It is native to eastern North America, occurring in both Canada and the United States. In the United States, its range is primarily centered in the Midwest, while in Canada it is only confirmed to occur in Ontario. Its natural habitats are nutrient-rich alluvial forests and loamy bluffs, which most often sit on calcareous substrate. This species is a short-lived herbaceous biennial. It can be told apart from other related species in its native range through a specific combination of traits: short fruits that grow up to 4.2 cm long, borne on short pedicels that reach 3.5 mm long, which are held in a spreading position when mature; plus wider stem leaves that grow to over 8 mm across and have a pubescent upper surface. It produces cream-colored flowers during the spring.
