Ecologically, it is one of the most widespread species in the Bacopa genus.
Global Habitat Range
It commonly grows in marshy areas across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Pakistan, Taiwan, Vietnam, tropical and southern Africa, Madagascar, Australia, the Caribbean, and Middle and South America.
US Distribution
It is also found in the US states of Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and Hawaii.
Former Singapore Habitat
It used to grow wild in the freshwater swamps of Singapore and nearby regions known as beremi.

The most commonly reported adverse effects of Bacopa monnieri use in humans are nausea, increased intestinal motility, and gastrointestinal upset.
