Astragalus praelongus, commonly called stinking milkvetch, is a perennial plant in the legume family (Fabaceae).
Distribution and Habitat
It is found in the Colorado Plateau and Canyonlands region of the southwestern United States, and it grows in soils that contain selenium.

Its fleshy seedpods become woody as they age.
Variety Naming
The variety Astragalus praelongus var. ellisiae was named for Charlotte Cortlandt Ellis, who collected the holotype specimen in the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico, near where she lived.
