Astragalus newberryi A.Gray is a perennial herbaceous plant. It produces pinnate leaves 1.5 to 15 centimeters long, which carry 3 to 15 leaflets each. Every individual leaflet measures 5 to 20 millimeters in length. This species has pink-purple colored flowers, and its flowering period occurs between April and June. The fruit it forms is a pod 13 to 28 millimeters long, which holds a single seed.
