This species is a small perennial herb that grows into a low clump with spreading stems and woolly leaves. Its stems are less than 7 centimeters long, and each stem bears leaves composed of many oval, pointed leaflets. An inflorescence holding 5 to 13 flowers grows above the clump of foliage. Each flower is pinkish-purple and measures between 1 and 2 centimeters long. The fruit is a densely woolly white legume pod with a bent tip. This species is endemic to the mountain ranges of southern California, with scattered known populations in the San Gabriel, San Bernardino, and San Jacinto Mountains. It grows in mountain forest, woodland, and pebble plain habitats.
