This is a description of the perennial herb Astragalus kentrophyta A.Gray. The species is somewhat variable in appearance, particularly across its different varieties. In general, it is a small, low-lying plant that grows in spiny mats or clumps. Its short stems are covered in hairs. Its small leaves are divided into smaller leaflets, which are either oval-shaped or narrow and linear, and end in a spine. The inflorescence produces between one and three flowers, which range in color from white to pinkish purple. Each flower is less than one centimeter long. The fruit produced by this plant is a hairy, flattened legume pod that measures 4 to 9 millimeters in length.
